Richard Areen, M.D., Otolaryngologist, Sutter River City Surgery Center, Sacramento, California

Richard Areen is the president of Sacramento ENT, a 13-member ENT specialty group based in Sacramento, Calif. He joined the group in 1982. He is also a past governor of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, and is the founder and original president of Capital Medical Specialists, a 250-member specialty independent physician association. Dr. Areen earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan.  He is affiliated with the Sutter River Surgery Center in Sacramento, California.

John Byers has practiced otolaryngology with Greensboro Ear, Nose & Throat Associates since finishing residency in 1994. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas in 1989, and has served on the Surgical Peer Review and Operating Room Committee for the Moses Cone Health System for 10 years. He currently serves as the Medical Director for the Surgical Center of Greensboro as well as a member of the Board of Directors.

Thomas M. Deas, Jr., M.D., Gastroenterologist, Fort Worth Endoscopy Center, Texas

Thomas Deas began his medical practice in Fort Worth, Texas, after retiring from a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force (where he earned the rank of colonel) in 1991. While on active duty with the USAF, he earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, La. He is currently a member of Gastroenterology Associates of North Texas, a 16-physician single-specialty gastroenterology group in Fort Worth. He is affiliated with the Fort Worth Endoscopy Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

Ken Deck, M.D., General Surgeon, Saddleback Valley Outpatient Surgery Center, Laguna Hills, California

Ken Deck has been practicing surgery in Southern California for almost 30 years. Early in his practice he performed general and vascular surgeries, but his focus now is on breast cancer. He pioneered the use of laparoscopic surgery in Orange County. Dr. Deck earned his medical degree at Ohio State University. He has been the Medical Director of Outpatient CareCenter in Birmingham since it opened in 1984, and is past president of the Alabama State Society of Anesthesiologists. John Henley, M.D., Otolaryngologist, Fayetteville Ambulatory Surgery Center, Fayetteville, North Carolina

John Henley, otolaryngologist, earned his medical degree at The University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is the vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He has been the medical director of the Fayetteville Ambulatory Surgery Center since 1982, watching the center grow from four operating rooms when it began to 11 operating rooms and three gastrointestinal treatment rooms today.

Jeff Hessing, M.D., Orthopedist, Treasure Valley Hospital, Boise, Idaho

Jeff Hessing was born in Boise, Idaho, and he practices medicine there today with Orthopaedic Associates. Dr. Hessing earned his medical degree at the University of Washington in 1980. Except for his residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois, from 1981-1985, his entire career has been spent in the Northwest. He is affiliated with Treasure Valley Hospital in Boise, Idaho.

Alan Kravitz, M.D., General Surgeon, Montgomery Surgery Center, Rockville, Maryland

Alan Kravitz earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland, and he has practiced general surgery in Rockville, Md. for the past 21 years. He has served as chairman of the Department of Surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, and for many years has been chairman of the Quality Improvement Advisory Committee at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.  He performs much of his surgery at Montgomery Surgery Center in Rockville, Maryland, where he is on the Medical Executive Committee.

Ben Massey, M.D., Anesthesiologist, Pueblo Surgery Center, Pueblo, Colorado

Ben Massey earned his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1982, served a surgery internship and anesthesia residency at the University of Colorado, and now practices anesthesiology and pain management. Dr. Massey has been on the medical staff of Parkview Medical Center since 1985, serving as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia from 1985–1997. He joined Pueblo Surgery Center in 2000, and  has served as the center’s Medical Director since 2005. He is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesia, including a subspecialty certification in Pain, and of the American Academy of Pain Management.

Ed Nighbert, M.D., General Surgeon, Lexington Surgery Center, Lexington, Kentucky

Ed Nighbert was a founding partner of Lexington (Kentucky) Surgery Center in 1981, and has been the medical director since that time. He is a former president of the Fayette County (Kentucky) Medical Society, and the former president of medical staff at both St. Joseph’s Hospital and Samaritan Hospital. He is affiliated with the Lexington Surgery Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He is the orthopaedic consultant to Major League Lacrosse, and is the head team physician for Sacred Heart University.
